Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo DSC_2975

This is a female Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo I photographed on my recent trip to Strathbogie, north-east Victoria. The females have a larger yellow patch on the cheek and the yellow side panels on the tail feathers. They are gorgeous birds and sound quite different to our white Sulphur- crested Cockatoos.

Interestingly, I have had them fly over my home in northern Melbourne three times in the last couple of weeks. It is the first time I have ever seen them here.
