A flower for my sibling DSC_7533

This is one of the three offspring that visit our home every day and have been doing so for years.

A little while ago, I found one of the three young ones on the ground wandering around in our front yard. I thought it was very odd and then realised the poor bird had a broken leg. His two siblings were low down in the big tree watching him and waiting. It was heart breaking. I captured him and took him to the Vet as he had no hope of lasting long on the ground and couldn’t fly at all.

All the while his siblings were watching and waiting.

I was so hoping the Vet could fix him, I offered to pay and look after him but after an xray, they found it was broken badly in 2 places. They had to euthanise him. I was heart- broken.

What followed was worse. For several days after, the parents and siblings seemed to set up centauries around our home, calling and screaming for the lost one that never returned home.

A couple of days later I was in the front yard watching and one of the young ones flew straight toward me. I thought it was going to attack me but instead it landed on the bird bath for a short time and looked at me before flying off. I truly felt something pass between us. I thought that maybe they would blame me somehow but on some level (or maybe I am anthropomorphising) they knew I was trying to help.

It affected myself and son who helped me deeply.

The cockies still return day after day and life returned to normal. George (my pet Cockatoo) alerted me to this one feeding on our Eucualpts in the backyard. I think all is forgiven.
