The Birthday Storm 2DSC_2318
If you read my last experience with a storm, you may be wondering why I thought it was a good idea to go to the highest point in the local vicinity to attempt some lightning shots while a massive storm approached.
It was the eye-rolling, rap loving daughter's birthday and she loves storms so off we went.
The storm seemed some distance away so I set up and started with a few shots of clouds when suddenly, I felt something strange and eerie blanket the atmosphere. The heavens broke open and large bolts of lightning, three at time, started hitting the ground. I grabbed my camera and ran back to the car, terrified I was the perfect conduit for a strike with my tripod. We couldn't see a thing apart from the flashes of lightning which were coming over thick and fast. I admit I may have let a scream or two escape and was so terrified I rang my brother (a storm chaser of sorts) to assure me that I was safe in the car and wasn't going to die and to come and rescue me. He did.
As soon as he arrived, the storm had passed and left some very strange cloud formations (mammatus clouds which I will post later) and this weird shaft of light and rainbow.
Daughter did roll her eyes at my terror but thought it was the best storm ever and a perfect way to end her birthday.
