Parkmore Distillery, Dufftown
Parkmore was founded in 1894 by the Parkmore Distillery Co., but ownership was transferred to James Watson and Co. Ltd. in 1900. This company was then acquired by John Dewar & Sons Ltd. in 1923. In 1925, ownership was transferred again to Distillers Company Ltd. DCL transferred it to Scottish Malt Distilleries Ltd. in 1930, and it was closed in 1988.
Parkmore has been silent since 1931 because of problems with its water source. Although the maltings were in use until the late 1960's and the warehouses are still in use today. Parkmore's whisky is no longer available - it is reputed that all the casks remaining in the distillery were smashed when it closed.
The pagoda type roof on the old malt kiln building helped draw the hot air from the peat furnace through the malt by way of a chimney effect and was introduced around the 1890s as it offered an improved air flow
