Precious
This is a picture I took of my first granddaughter last summer in our backyard. I was babysitting her and got a hair to take these pictures because it was her first time of being able to sit up by herself without falling for more than 10 minutes at a time. I had to take over 50 pictures because she was absolutely terrified of the grass, for some unknown reason, causing her to cry profusely. If I placed the blankets underneath her, she seemed to quiet a bit. Though the natural lighting was terrific, this shot is among the few that really captured how beautiful she really is even among her many tears.
About this time, she started crawling all over the place. She became such a happy baby because she was mobile and so much more independent. Oddly, before this, she was already dancing and would sit still for someone to read her an entire book while being held. And she has always loved her pacifier.
One night while I was watching her and she was joyously crawling around everywhere in the house with what she thought was complete freedom, she learned how to grab her pacifier and put it in her mouth with great relish and relief since no one could ever really seem to get it to her in time before she'd start crying for it. As I was taking it all in, I just had an incredible urge to hold her tight and love on her. So I reached out to her as though to say, "Would you like me to hold you?" Hucking aside her beloved pacifier, she practically ran (in a crawling fashion) to me until I reached down and tossed her up in the air and then dropped her down close to my heart. To be held by her gramma far surpassed her love for the comfort of her pacifier.
This situation reminded me of how many people, like me, feel about God and possibly how He sees us as His children: Though we have our pacifiers like work; family; friends; hobbies (like drawing, graphics, music, and/or Flickr--lol) to occupy our time, once the Lord reaches out to us, we gladly huck it all aside just to be held by Him, the Ancient of Days through Jesus by the Holy Spirit. Nothing compares to the preciousness of being loved on by Him and us on Him as we are being held close to His heart.
If you would like to know more about this precious love, please read what I wrote below the picture called "Spreading Tent of Rainbow Rays" on this photo stream of mine.
Here is the passage in relation to the above which the Lord shared with me about the time of my 40 day love fest with Him. I can't help but think He feels this way about all of us who share in His unique kind of love. Just as my granddaughter and all of my grandchildren are precious to me, so are we precious to Him:
Isaiah 43:4
"Since you are precious and honored in my sight, and because I love you, I will give men in exchange for you, and people in exchange for your life" (1984 NIV).
