Crash and Burn!
Good side/ bad side crash and burn baby. Oh well I had fun, time to start over and take what I learned and apply it.
What did I learn.
This pc. Threads were not tapped entirely through, so I figured that I’d finish threading it after Brazing. Not enough material left to withstand the pressure from the tap. Heard a little “ping”.
Jewellers hard solder ie. actually a 75% silver braze, that I bought today, probably a ex HandyHarmon now Lucasmilhaupt Braze 750, of course they couldn’t tell me anything about it at the store, and charged me 47 bucks for 10.5 grams. Sometimes I know I’m being overcharged but just go with it anyway.
I suspect the braze might be knockoff, who knows, but anyhow, wets out like shit on stainless, but it takes relatively speaking, gobs of heat, north of 790C or 1450F. What I wanted, but I hoped it flowed nicely. It does not.
Might as well try nickel silver on stainless. I have tried gasflux CO-4 on stainless, really didn’t go well, it worked but kinda sucked. Maybe full on nickel silver, I have some 3/32 eutectic brand stuff to experiment with see how it flows, might be better than the silver braze I tried today. I’m more familiar with it and it works beautifully on steel.
