The river beneath my feet

This is Škocjanske jame, or The Skocjan Caves, a must visit place on our road trip through Slovenia. This is the point where the Reka River disappears underground and then flows underground for 34 kilometers.

What you are looking at is the collapsed part of a cave system with the river flowing out at the bottom before re-entering the cave system somewhere under my feet.

We hiked around this hole in the ground to the church in the distance, Cerkev sv. Kancijana. Over by the church is another big hole, in amongst the houses.

The area is quite alarming really, I wouldn't live here if you paid me.

As we arrived at this spot I immediately realised I'd need a wide angle lens so I swapped to my 16mm-35mm. Then I realised I'd have to pano the shot to fit it all in.

So this is a four shot pano at 16mm, it's a big hole.

The history here goes back thousands of years so if you're interested look up the Wiki.
