Kadu Flyer
Llyn y Fan Fach
Taken from the peak Picws Du \ Bannau Sir Gaer.
To get here requires navigating down some of Wales's narrowest of lanes which with modern 4x4's coming at you isn't any fun. Then a three mile hike and a 1600 feet gain in altitude.
It's all worth it though, on a clear day you can see all of mid Wales.
All the landscape in this area was shaped by the last ice age and the lake was formed as the last ice melted, the moraine providing a dam to hold the water back. A man made dam was added in the 1930's to increase the size of the lake and provide an improved water supply for Llanelli.
There is a legend of a 'Lady of the lake' and as good a rendition as any can be found here.
Maybe I'll get to meet her one day?
