A new bird for me!
It is called a Spotted Towhee or a Rufous Sided Towhee.... apparently part of the sparrow family. When I looked for some ID on it... I couldn't believe how many different sparrows there are!!
I've never seen one before...but, he showed up two days ago ... as you can see he has some seed bits in his beak.
I put some seeds on the top of the patio wall for the little chickadees as well as in the feeders... they love to hop around on the wall instead of dealing with the sparrows that come to the feeders. . And, this guy thought it was great. He hung out with the chickadees on the wall...
From a video I watched he finds his food on the ground... like a Junco and there were several Juncos in the video with him.. they hop and jump more or less the same way and kick up snow just like the Juncos do to find bits underneath it.
He is bigger than sparrows but not quite as long as our robins... although, he seems to be as chunky...he is a good sized bird.
And, look at that eye.... reddish/brown, or is it brownish red... unusual to see an eye with colour on the smaller birds isn't it? they are usually.. black....
