Battle for Etrania
.
.
The Battle for the walls of Etrania is a pivotal moment in Nick Perumov’s “Diamond Sword, Wooden Sword”, a fantasy novel from 1998. This monumental clash saw a non-human alliance of elves, gnomes, and other mystical beings face off against a formidable human Empire.
.
.
The human Mel’in Empire had been besieging the non-human enclave of Etrania for weeks until the walls were finally breached. In a last effort to stem the slaughter, a host of elves and gnomes marched out to meet the humans in the city streets and the fields beyond the gates. The Empire achieved a pyrrhic victory and took the city.
.
.
The inspiration for this build was an artwork I came across that depicted a large host of humans, clearly modeled off Roman legionaries, being driven back by elves and dwarf-like beings. I did some research and found that it was based on this Russian novel and became pretty interested. All of my information came from loose translations of the text, so I apologize if any of the details aren’t accurate.
