The nominal tree (to William of Ockham) 1963 --- Dan Flavin, American (1933-1996)

In 1963 Flavin arrived at his distinctive medium, which consisted of arrangements of fluorescent tubes and the light and shadows they create. For this iconic work, he used the minimum number of ordinary light fixtures needed to establish a series. The title pay tribute to William of Ockham, a 14th century philosopher who developed the principle known as “Ockham’s Razor,” based on the maxim “ it is vain to do with more what can be done with fewer.”
