Dreams in the Pleasure Garden
I've been rediscovering the music of the late Medieval and the early Renaissance periods. This music may not be everyone's cup of tea; but this performance by the Orland Consort is excellent. Machaut was first a poet, a musician second. The poems of wistful love are worth reading as well. It's interesting how the sentiment has not changed much in 500 years when one listens to a song cycle like Die Dicherterliebe composed in 1840 by Robert Schumann using the poetry of Heinrich Heine.
