Partial Eclipse over New York
Chrysler Building, New York City
When I decided (a little late) to take a crack at photographing the solar eclipse, I tried to think of a foreground that would look good in partial silhouette. With the eclipse peaking in this area around 2:40, I knew I'd be aiming skyward. Initially, I thought about shooting up a cliff, but soon nixed the idea.
Instead, I figured I'd wander around the city and see if I could find something. I chose the Chrysler Building because of its unique Art Deco appearance. I was just about to give up on the idea because I couldn't find a viewing angle. Luckily, there was a gap between buildings, and according to the PhotoPills app, the sun would make its way across the gap right as the eclipse neared its peak. Some clouds rolled in, but I think it adds to the mysterious feel of the day (especially with the gargoyles jutting from the top of the building)!
