163 (5) Fleeting Beauty

Macro Mondays: Defining Beauty.

"Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit..." 1 Peter 3:3-4a.

This shot, though close to what I was aiming at, isn't as obvious as I was hoping it would be.

The hand is an elderly lady's hand, and belongs to a friend of mine. She has terrible arthritis, which you can barely see in the swollen joints shown. In spite of this and other health setbacks, she is one of the most vibrant, enjoyable and active people I know. With a down to earth sense of humour, she never ceases to bring a smile to my face.

The hand also shows signs of hard work. She owns, and manages a six horse stable and helps her daughter run a twenty-one horse stable. Active every day, and helping where she can, she continues to be a source of inspiration to me.

Beauty will fade. Who our characters are in life, is how we will be remembered in death. I want to aim to be a person with an inner beauty that will supersede the fading of my outer shell...in essence, someone worth remembering. HMM

[Flower's diameter is 2". Thanks go to Peter Whitfield for id. It is a Japanese Anemone, (Anemone hupehensis).]
