Modern Art meets Old Architecture

Tower of the Abbey Church, surrounded by art.

Part of a 10 m high spiral staircase in oak from Gauthier Oushoorn (Belgian artist).

He has a profound interest in the definition of space. Architecture is his recurring frame of reference, while his training in craftsmanship acts both as a tool and an obstruction. Through sculptural means he explores the elements for creating space, which he simultaneously uses as a functional tool for the realized work.

The stairs obey to mathematical laws which replace the ego of the artist, as in Islamic art.

(was part of Krasj, a 2 yearly art trail, which brings several modern artists together in several locations, spread over the city.
