Switzerland 2023

Sardona UNESCO world hertiage area with Segnes Pass with Tschingelhörner (left) and Piz Segnes (center). The shark tooth like Tschingelhörner are part of a large thrust fault because two tectonic plates are colliding and forming the Alps. An older (250-300 mio years old) darker rock layer was pushed over a much younger, light colored 30-40 mio year old flysch layer, and the thrust plane is visible as a horizontal line in the Tschingelhörner as well as in the Atlas peak. The valley below us has been carved out by glaciers during the ice age. Originally U shaped will polished sides, it has been partially filled in by river deposits.
