Lowering VRAM in Second Life

Please support mod creators in sl!

DO NOT DO THIS IF THE ITEM IS NO COPY. You may ruin your item forever.

This requires basic knowledge of Second Life building tools.

This is a simple video to show you how to lower VRam and overall load for yourself and other people.

I love the store and the dress that I am modifying, though I still like to keep myself fairly lightweight when its not for an image. No offense was intended in making this, its a very pretty dress and I thought it would look wonderful while I modded it for the video.

Step by step:

1. Make sure your object has Modify and Copy perms.

2. drag the object out on your land or at a sandbox if you can. Some items have "no rez" script in them which will delete it.

3. Right click> edit> Shift+Left mouse button> drag the item to copy it

OR

Drop out another copy from your inventory. This is so you can edit the shine to match the original as best as possible.

Optional- Create a light source by right clicking the land and selecting BUILD from the menu or use the built in build menu in many viewers. Create any prim you prefer on the ground and head over to the Features tab. Check the box next to Light.

4. Edit one of the objects you wish to modify, and click the Texture tab in the build pane.

5. Click Shininess (specular)

6. Click Texture to the left of Use Texture drop down menu

7. Select a low pixel basic white texture you made, or use the built in Blank button under the texture preview.

8. Hit OK

9. Click Color below the shininess drop down, Glossiness, and Environment settings.

10. Use any grayscale color, or if you are feeling fun, pick a different color for the shine.

11. Slide the Color Picker bar on the right side of the window to your desired level of brightness.

12. Hit ok

13. Head to the General tab in the Build pane and rename your object something like [Original name here] Modified

14. Right click your object in world and either Take or Take Copy.

I also remove some normal maps in the video to further lower VRam usage. Feel free to test stuff out and see how it looks!
