ASIAN OBJECT LESSON: PLUSH PANDA

For the Asian Object Lesson I brought my plush panda bear to show my discussion group. What is Asian about it? First off when almost anyone seeing a panda bear it is immediately if not always associated with Asia. Being seen on many signs of Asian restaurants, on jewelry, or sold as a plush stuffed animal at zoos like mine, pandas are an international symbol to Asia.

Panda bears are native mammals to Central China. They can be seen and found in various mountain ranges living peacefully and munching on bamboo. But sadly Giant panda bears are now on the endangered species list as a animal that is going extinct from our beautiful planet, they can now be seen in special exhibits helping to preserve and repopulate them at zoos and wild animal parks.

Five tag word I used to describe my panda bear were:

black & white

-extinction

-bamboo

-international symbol

-mammal. With those my class discussion group was formed. My group in my discussion was based off the fact that all of our items have or had been present in international relations, marketing, and tourism. Pandas are part of this as a childhood toy that is manufactured throughout the world as a symbol of Asia/China and it is also present in tourism, i.e.: the panda exhibit at the world famous San Diego Zoo in California. The other objects in my group were imported cigarettes, business cards, fake designer wear, etc. This shows Asia as well as other countries are involved in the international market.
