"The bays are overloading! We gotta scramble these pods before these damned seps bring this whole ship down with us! Boarding crews have infiltrated the docking bay! I repeat; find your crew and get the hell outta here!!"
The intercom that had been howling commands for the last few hours had gone suddenly silent, only retaining a slight constant crackle. I had experienced enough battles to know what this meant. The Endurance no longer had a command bridge.
"Where's Twitch!?"
I had asked the same kriffing question a thousand times over in far too many scenarios, and I was seriously considering court-marshaling the rookie when this was all straightened out. Hedge, Twitch and a terrified maintenance officer stood nearby, as Hedge desperately tried to access several pods, jammed by the primary explosion that had struck the ship.
"They're just not coming Cod," Hedge briefly removed his helmet, to wipe away a line of sweat from his forehead. "The whole system is manually banked. I'd have to reset it, and that'd take...an hour, maybe more."
I stood there cursing, regretting my decision of bringing my squad to the lower levels, where some backup pods had been. On the upper levels a majority of the pods were already gone, and since we had lost several in the explosion, there was no guarantee of there being enough.
"Phoenix! We got rogers, six-o'clock!"
The three of us dropped to our knees and began to shower the tiny passage in blaster fire, as advancing droids from the inner corridors encountered a fresh round of resistance. After quickly dispatching of the first wave, we quickly scrambled about, trying to detach the pods. Blaster fire would have attracted the attention of far more than some scout droids. Handing a small E7 to the shaken officer, I turned to Hedge.
"Is there any other way? Upper levels are swarming by now, everyone one else is gone. There's no way we can get back."
Hedge shook his head slowly. "The central computer for the pods is just above. If we can access it, we can get out of here."
If the clankers don't find us first." I gruffed, igniting my jump-pack, and slowly boosted myself to the catwalk above. Running my hands to the outlet below, I ripped it open attempting to reset the IDF, so I could reboot the system. To my terror, I realized there was NO IDF.
"Firefiek!" I swore, just as blasterfire erupted from below. The clankers had found us. Just as I was about to drop down and join my squad in what was quite possibly our last battle, I noticed a dark shape, pro-pulsing itself through the piping beside me. Raising my blaster, I realized to my utter astonishment, it was Dyre. Launching himself straight into the middle of the fray, he opened fire, with a scream of "IIIIIIEEEEEE!!" Not on the droids, but on the pod control panel. I watched flabbergasted as it exploded in a shower of sparks, and the hatch opened up.
"That's one way to do it-" I stammered, quickly launching off the catwalk to intercept the droid force. My squad scrambled into the pod, dragging the dazed officer with them. I momentarily continued to gun down the droids before diving into the pod myself. Slamming the detach button, the pod shot out with a sickening lurch, sending us all heaving. Regaining our footing, we scrambled to our seats, securing our buckles, and breathing something far too dramatic to be realistic.
"What the actual f*** Dyre," Hedge snapped, his face red purple with exasperation, and also embarrassment. "Where the f*** were you when we needed your tiny brain present."
Dyre beamed, assuming this was Hedge's way of saying well done, and also pleased with his work of saving of the squad.
"To be completely honest, I wasn't aiming for the panel, my gun just slipped while I was firing it. Haha, looks like we made it out though!"
As the pod descended through the atmosphere, more than one obscenity was uttered at Dyre.
Mission 10.1 for the 253rd.
Well... uh, yeah.
This is one of my many unrelated builds I have on my stream that I never made public. Truth is, back in the day, I didn't think it was good enough for the group pool, so I didn't post it. I actually built the entire five builds for 10, but in the end, only released two. I've lost pics of my two others, but still have this one. Just recently, I was looking at some old stuff of mine, and it made me feel very nostalgic, so I just wanted to make this one public. Excuse the log, it is after all, two years old.
I really-really want to build again, and be as active as I had been in the past. It could be a long time before I find time and space for that however, but I would really love to return sometime in the near future. You all have a special place in my heart frfr. Keep on going strong, I'll be back.
God Bless you bastards, and make the 253rd great again YEET
