Fue creado en 1537 como Tercio de Saboya por disposición del emperador Carlos I de España, sobre la base de tropas veteranas procedentes del Tercio Viejo de Lombardía.

It was created in 1537 as Third of Savoy by arrangement of the emperor Carlos I of Spain, on the base of veteran troops coming from Tercio Viejo of Lombardy.
