THE OLD CROFT STREET TANNERY
The former tannery was built between 1835 and 1853. A 3-storey long workshop in 3 sections with the tannery at the centre, its South facing front is stone whilst the other sides are brick. The feature of these wide timber louvred openings to the first and the second floors on the Croft Street side are now a striking purple. There were also pivot windows to the right on the ground and first floor. On the left, there is now an arched pend.
More recently Monteith's, it was unused and deteriorating by 1995, deemed to be in poor condition and at risk. These days, the building looks in great shape and represents another good preservation job when converted into self-contained flats in 1996.
