The Main Building Notre Dame/Color Photo.6x9_FB_1549

The Main Building on the campus of the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, IN was constructed in 1879, and was the third building to stand on same site, built in the same year the previous building was destroyed by fire. Currently the Main Building serves primarily as the headquarters for administration at ND, but also houses some classrooms. Originally the building is where students attended classes, ate meals and resided.

The dome of the Main Building was added in 1882, and was recently re-gilded in 2005. On top of the dome sits a 19 foot tall statue of the Mother Mary,"Notre Dame" (Our Lady).. See more at:
