It was originally built on the historically recognized, Cartier Field where Knute Rockne's team played football. The library opened in the university's 122nd academic year. In 1987 it was renamed for President Emeritus, Theodore M Hesburgh, C.S.C.
The Ellerbe Company of St. Paul, Minnesota were the architects of the library building. The south side of the building features the stunning mural, Word of Life. It depicts an image of Christ and other Biblical history.. See more at:
