Alligator

American alligators inhabit the Atlantic and Gulf Coastal Plain of the Southeastern USA. They are most numerous in Florida and Louisiana. Males grow to a maximum length of about four meters, females about three meters. They continue to grow their whole lives, and extremely large, old males can weigh half a ton.
Although seeming to be slow and sluggish, they can run on land for short distances at a speed of ten miles per hour. This is as fast as most of us humans can run. And, of course, alligators are very strong swimmers.
