50007+50049 Dawlish
With peak tourist season in full flow on a typical Summer Saturday, 50007 "Hercules" and 50049 "Defiance" erupt through Dawlish at Coastguards Footbridge with the 1Z50 07.07 Ipswich-Paignton GB Railfreight Staff Charter.
It must be said that this shot was far from being straightforward for various reasons. One of the issues, people, was thankfully not a serious hazard, although there was always a possibility of an intrusion occurring up to the last second. A late-running IET was sent on the bidirectional up line in front of the tour (coincidently passing us in a patchy cloud), the moment passed fairly quickly to alleviate the apprehensions of 'behind' bowlage. The main concern however was the weather (again), which at one stage engulfed all the town in a blanket of cloud giving a grim outlook for the small gallery. The clouds eventually parted minutes before the main attraction. All in all, the difficult task of getting everything to come together nicely was achieved, which is a miracle when considering the number of variables that could've easily gone wrong.
