National Railway Museum ECJS No. 12. NRM 'Locomotion' Site, Shildon

Seen at the NRM's 'Locomotion' Site in Shildon, County Durham is this lovely teak bodied 3rd Class corridor carriage built by the North Eastern Railway's York works in 1898 for the East Coast Joint Stock pool jointly owned by the North Eastern Railway (NER), Great Northern Railway (GNR) and North British Railway (NBR) for the use on London to Scotland services. After grouping in 1923 this carriage became part of the London North Eastern Railway's (LNER) fleet and amazingly survived the 1948 Nationalisation as part of the British Railways (BR) fleet and was withdrawn, still with gas lighting in 1952! This carriage was in storage until 1978 and was loving restored in 1986 at Steamtown in Carnforth.
