May I tell you about the light

the wonderful light I see

the light that is within everything

the light in you and in me

 

It's a beautiful thing to behold

sometimes it's silver; sometimes it's gold

sometimes it's iridescent as oil in a puddle

I am amazed as I feel it grow and unfold

 

It soothes my heart and warms my soul

makes every step seem lighter

it breathes new life into my being

though dark clouds loom the light shines brighter

 

My thoughts are far away today

and yet something keeps bringing me back

to be omnipresent is a marvellous gift

I run myself ragged trying to make up for all that I lack

 

But really there is no need to worry

I must settle my mind; bring peace to my day

this tendency I have to procrastinate and worry

whittles my spirit; erodes time away

 

The wind is howling; it beckons to me

I look out of the window and it's clear to see

the most beautiful light blows the cobwebs away

and I hear a small voice saying to me

 

Look to the light; bring all that is you

life is given to live and enjoy everything

don't wish for more when you have all you need

give thanks and be grateful; let your spirit rise up and sing

 

So I sing and I dance and I watch my cats play

and I sit and write these few humble words

then I look to the skylight; watch the clouds tumbling by

all things are transient; fly away like the birds

 

This body is temporary but my soul is whole

I will never be perfect but so what

there is beauty and light surrounding my world

I should be content with all that I've got

 

So next time I see a shooting star or a rainbow

I'll still make a wish; still utter a prayer

but in my heart and my soul I am certain in this moment

that I am already blessed and this feeling will always be there

 

It's like an epiphany; that one defining moment

when your stars all align and everything feels right

It is fleeting but I cling to it and try to hold on

I want to feel it forever; feel it each day and throughout every night

 

Every day I've decided to remind myself of it

let nothing disturb me or turn me about

can I change; can I really stop constantly worrying

maybe not, but still I am willing and keen to find out …
