WILDFLOWERS IN THE WIND
One night I a little while ago I set my camera to record the way in which I spontaneously compose, play and sing ad lib. This is the result of my improvisation in real time. I write my poems in the same way, in stream of consciousness, but this time is unique (to me) inasmuch as I had never recorded myself doing it from the get go before.
On another evening recently I went down on to the army firing ranges and shot a little footage of some wildflowers blowing in the wind. I have incorporated the sound of the wind and utilised it as a percussion instrument. There was a faint low murmur underlying which I only heard when I played it back. Sounds a bit like a bittern! I like to think it is the heartbeat of the Earth. I think the sound of the wind and the unusual sound combined is very beautiful, though it strikes me it is a very similar to that of the guns firing when practice is in session and so there is a touch of melancholy added to the mix. The ramifications of war games and the resilience of nature blend here in harmony … hard to imagine, I know, but there is a very special and unique quality felt in the atmosphere here.
Not sure what you will think of my jamming session … it is experimental and raw with no editing; straight from camera, as is the footage of the wildflowers and the wind and though the lyrics are at times hard to hear, wouldn't that be just the case if I had sung into the actual wind … This is really more about the sound than about the lyrics, although they are of course about the wind and love ; 0) I combined the two recordings in a simple basic programme that I often use. I am finding it exciting to experiment with new ideas and also embracing the beauty in imperfection … Recently I have come to believe that only God can create perfection and this revelation is truly liberating. I have driven myself almost crazy at times in the past trying to perfect every little detail and now I can relax and enjoy more fully all things in my life ... I love the way in which these little flowers dance freely and joyfully in the wind; their little heads bobbing up and down. Wish we could all feel this joy always ... <3
CARRY ME BACK
Carry me back on the gentlest of winds
and I will show you where love is
carry me higher than the mountain
where snow looks like a dream
Carry me back on the gentlest of winds
and I will show you where love is
carry me back on top of the mountains
and let me swim freely in the sea within
I will tell you of all that I know
and I'll give you the love that you need
Carry me over the mountains
take me away with the wind
carry me back to where I come from
let the angel give me wings
Carry me back across the water
carry me home to where I belong
seen in my dreams I'm on a mountain
and your down below in the ocean
carry me back
Carry me back across the ocean
and tell me where my heart lies
carry me back on the gentlest of winds
and I will tell you where love is
Carry me over the mountain tops
and I will swim in the ocean there
and I will be there too if not
your soul will be there eternally
Carry me back over the mountains
and I will show you where love is
carry me back over the ocean
and let me swim freely within
and I will tell you all the secrets
of life and love that I know
of life and love
life and love
that I know.
