SOMEONE LIKE YOU – VAN MORRISON

 

He let me drag him by the hand

see how I make him smile

he tries so hard to understand me

and walk that extra mile

He is cute in a funny way for sure

that other people just can't see

but he is kind and makes me laugh

and that's all anyone really needs

he pretends that I am annoying him

that I drive him mad

but look how he let's me hug him

how he makes me happy; not sad

he asks me out for a walk

and we stop to smell the flowers

he listens while I talk

and frowns at me for hours and hours

I laugh until I split my sides

and then I run around

to put a stitch in my aching sides

and listen to the sound

he tries to whistle like a tone deaf bird

while I dance to my own tune

I sing while he tries to root me to the ground

Still I fly high like a pink balloon

the statue really looks prettier than me

but she is made of stone

I am alive living by the sea

and he makes my house his home

he loves my cats and they love him

he strokes them until he's tired

then falls asleep covered in their hair

choking up fur balls as the cats view him with pride

I took this picture; told him to say cheese

I think he said “Stinking Bishop”

look at our happy portrait my friends

I think he drank a teaspoon of hyssop

He had to have something for the cat hair you see

an expectorant of some kind

so I made him up a herbal remedy

which he said he didn't really mind

We ended our walk by the deep blue sea

when the stars began to twinkle

then shared a cup of hot chocolate by the fireside

with marshmallows and chocolate sprinkles

good friends we were and we are still

that's what everyone needs

someone with whom we can be ourselves

letting us shine; letting us be free

Letting us be family.
