THE CHANGELING
Oh gypsy boy where do you roam
here and there; wherever's home
catch my eye and take me there
where I may stay and stand and stare
at all the wonders you have seen
on your travels; like a stream
keeping running gently with the wind
staying nowhere; never sinned
against the laws of sweet nature
you leave a place all the more richer
colourful ways and cloudless days
timeless traveller; milky ways
gentle as the Summer breeze
seasons change; you take your leave
memories are caught in amber
warm and subtle; know no anger
steeped in histories; always remembered
hand-me-downs; sweet burning embers
love this life you bring to me
open my eyes and let me see
all the beauty there is here
in perfect harmony year to year
you ride rough-shod sometimes it's true
and people drive a wedge between you
and all your beliefs; these wondrous things
that make you unique; a prince of kings
you rule with kind and pale blue eyes
unheard of; from your changeling ties
left on a doorstep; silently sleeping
there is a blue-eyed couple weeping
yet they find beauty in your brother
and care for him as any mother
and you, my beauty; you are free
to wander this Eden so beauteously
we do not miss what we never had
so all are happy and all are glad
clad in old clothes; almost rags
your proud face; honest and free of jags
I am happy to meet you albeit brief
think kindly of me as you would a leaf
first unfurled frond that heralds Spring
lush and tender; perfect wings
that carry me away from you
as we pass by and say adieu
recognising all we knew
a changeling I am; same as you.
