Oblivious! Just walking by
no-one sees what's in the sky
little girl plays a game of I spy
what do I see with my little eye
something beginning with H she says
high upon his shoulders, but her dad doesn't play
the noise is deafening and come what may
there's no conversation in the air today
Daddy dear, she shouts much louder
but daddy dear still doesn't hear her
his peripheral vision is obscured by her leg
so he doesn't even see the man on the ledge
dangling in the doorway; a line attached
the air sea rescue crew signal through the hatch
down below there's a hullabaloo
exchanging of signs from crew to crew
rescuing a “body” from the deep blue sea
risking all their lives for you and me
thank goodness it's only practice
and no real drama today
but I utter up a prayer as they fly away
because even in practice there's still a chance
the ocean is a dangerous place and leads a merry dance
so we must respect it and the power it has
and not do foolish things that will bring us to our last
courageous members of the air sea rescue
heroes of the hour making safe our waters
keeping us from harm; they never seem to grumble
they make me feel so proud and they make me feel so humble
they are the unsung heroes of each and every day
and yet most people are oblivious as they walk along the bay
we take for certain granted the things we see the most
whether it's people, plants or helicopters flying along the coast
I try to see the wonder in most everything I see
to see the world through the eyes of a child; each day is new to me.
