Hydrogen emission spectrum

Hydrogen spectrum (Balmer series) taken during a course lab which I supervised during 2019-2020.

The course lab cameras had been stolen, so I brought my own D800 to get even nicer pictures for the students to analyze! Taken without lens, so the relative spacing between the lines could be calculated by simply knowing the sensor size / nr. of horizontal pixels. Here one can observe 9-10 Balmer series lines, getting progressively closer to each other as one approaches near UV from the red direction.

7 pictures were stiched together to get the full spectrum from red to near UV (the left-most picture was taken at an exposure time of ca 1 hour to get anything at all through the camera's UV filter, which absorbs almost all of the light below ca 400 nm).
