1-5-2023 Moon w-Tycho Crater 19_21_59_AS_F220_ap213 R6J

We captured the full moon on Jan 5, 2023! We originally set out to do Mars on this night and did capture Mars, but the full moon was nicely placed to take this image before moving on to Mars.

Although the moon was fully lit, we could still manage to get some nice details around the Tycho crater area. Tycho is the youngest crater, being only 108 million years old, on this side of the moon. This crater is ~50 miles across, but some of its debris rays extend all the way across the full face of the moon. Our image nicely captures the detailed pattern of debris rays emanating from this impact site.

Captured with a C8Edge telescope and ASI178 color camera with the help of SharpCap. We took several videos at low fps (2 to 5 fps) and then stacked only the best 220 frames to get this image. Enjoy!
