Stranger #35 - Rebecca

There was a great spring buzz about Newcastle today. People were enjoying the sunshine and the beautiful blue skies.

I *wasn't* enjoying the sun, however! It was causing me havoc from a photography point of view. I am clueless when it comes to coping with strong sunlight, so I have promised myself to read up on the matter to avoid all the problems I encountered today on my stranger hunt!

Anyway... Rebecca! What a lovely girl. She was meeting a bunch of friends in Eldon Square when I rudely interrupted. :)

A few years back, at the age of 17, Rebecca left home to live in London. Things didn't work out so she came back and started working as a pole dancer.

'What did your mum say?' I asked.

'She's always supported me with everything I've done,' she replied.

Rebecca clearly loved the job until scarily she was attacked one night as she left the club. Understandably, she didn't go back.

Rebecca loves to dance, and is currently teaching hip hop and other dance classes to kids in deprived areas of Newcastle. She charges them 20p each and pays for the hall hire herself.

It was such a pleasure to meet you today, Rebecca. Your enthusiasm and commitment to dance and to teaching was wonderful, and I wish you every success. :)

Rebecca is #35 in my 100 strangers project. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at the 100 Strangers Flickr Group page
