Goodnestone House

Sunday we were expecting to undertake the long drive to Buckinghamshire to bring our dog back from the Veterinary hospital where he had undergone life saving surgery, but that had to be postponed due to what we hope was a minor setback. So we had to do something other than mope around the house so we went to Goodnestone.

This is Goodnestone House built in 1704 by Brook Bridges, 1st Baronet. His grandson married Fanny Fowler and had a daughter, Elizabeth, who married Edward Austen, brother of the famous author Jane Austen. Jane visited them on the estate regularly and it was after staying here in 1796 that she began writing her novel Pride and Prejudice, originally named First Impressions.

Thankyou to my friends who have asked about Ralph. We brought him home Monday evening and he is now getting some TLC that he still requires - 7 pills a day plus not allowed to tackle stairs. And we live in a four storey Victorian town house, a good job he is not a big dog!
