The tourist books tell you that when you make it to the summit of Kirkstone Pass you can take refreshment at Kirkstone Pass Inn, especially welcome if you have cycled there! This whitewashed stone building was once a vital and potentially-life-saving coaching inn and is the third highest public house in England. But now it appears to be permanently closed.
