Seals [2]

There are both Common or Harbour seals here as well as the more numerous Grey Seal. The total seal population is estimated at more than 10,000 seals now. Common or Harbour Seals are smaller than Grey Seals with a short muzzle; similar to that of a dog. Common seals are often found in a distinctive ‘banana’ position with their head and tail up. The larger Grey seals have a flat head profile, often referred to as “the roman nose”, and an elongated muzzle. They are not necessarily grey in colour and often have a . brown/ grey mottling. This mottling can be a distinctive feature between the two species.
