UFO [landed]
In the early hours of December 26 1980, two members of the USAF were sent to investigate a suspected crashed civilian aircraft, but instead they claim they encountered an unknown craft, which had apparently landed in a small clearing here in Rendlesham Forest, just outside RAF Woodbridge, which was used at the time by the United States Air Force . One of the men claims to have got close enough to see strange hieroglyphic symbols on the hull, and even to touch it. After some time, the craft rose slowly above the trees and then accelerated away at high speed.
The deputy base commander, Lieutenant Colonel Charles Halt, visited the site with several servicemen two days later in the early hours of 28 December 1980 . They took radiation readings in the surrounding area of the sighting using an AN/PDR-27, a standard U.S. military radiation survey meter, and found radiation levels to be higher than normal. It was during this investigation that, according to Halt, three star-like lights were seen in the sky, two to the north and one to the south, about 10 degrees above the horizon. Halt said that the brightest of these hovered for two to three hours and seemed to beam down a stream of light from time to time
The occurrence is the most famous of claimed UFO events to have happened in the United Kingdom, and is among the best-known reported UFO events worldwide. It has been compared to the Roswell UFO incident in the United States and is sometimes referred to as "Britain's Roswell". I’m not going to bore you with all the details, that would take pages, and there are plenty of articles on the internet, but there has been no definitive explanation for the Rendlesham Forest incident and the case remains unexplained to this day. Lord Hill-Norton, former Chief of the Defence Staff and a former Chairman of NATO’s Military Committee, has commented thus on the matter –
“My position both privately and publicly expressed over the last dozen years or more, is that there are only two possibilities, either:
a. An intrusion into our Air Space and a landing by unidentified craft took place at Rendlesham, as described.
or,
b. The Deputy Commander of an operational, nuclear armed, US Air Force Base in England, and a large number of his enlisted men, were either hallucinating or lying.
There is another explanation that the whole episode was a hoax played on the US servicemen by the British SAS [as has been claimed] or that the mysterious light was from distant Orfordness Lighthouse.
We took a walk in the forest to see what we could see and imagine my surprise when we came across an alien spacecraft. We waited some time for something to happen, but sadly nothing untoward did. I’m told that Forestry England have created a UFO trail in the forest and that this craft is a replica of the one seen by the US servicemen, but I think that’s just a cover-up. We went back the next day to try and find it again but couldn’t so it must have flown off. Honestly…..
