I’m not sure what that chap is doing poking around in the mud. Maybe he is looking for gold. About six years ago German artist Michael Sailstofer said he had hidden £10,000 worth of gold bars under the sand as part of a three month art festival. The organisers said diggers could keep any gold they found, but the artist also buried lots of metal rings to deter people with metal detectors. So far as I know only a small number of gold bars were found.
The fishing boat Boy Callum has been based in Folkestone for a number of years now. She is fitted with mechanised dredges including suction dredges and secondary pots and traps.
