So near, and yet so far

That's France over there, that dark smudge on the horizon. The shortest distance across the English Channel is just over 20 miles. That narrow stretch of water separates us from Continental Europe; not far really, and yet it seems to make us a world apart. There are a few fishing boats out there. Fishing is one of the contentious issues holding up a trade agreement with the EU. By the end of this week we may have a better idea where we stand with the EU - separated friends or resentful divorcees.
