Fossil Hunting

Folkestone is said to be one of the top ten places to look for fossils in Britain. The variety of fossils that can be found there is amazing. For centuries geologists have visited Folkestone, mainly attracted by the beautiful Gault Clay ammonites that are so abundantly found along the beach. The Gault Formation is a geological formation of stiff blue clay deposited in a calm, fairly deep-water marine environment during the Lower Cretaceous Period.

My grandson seems to be a bit of an expert at spotting fossils. In the short time we were on the beach before the rain came he found two ammonite fossils.
