Portrait of a Roman Woman

We learn about the Romans at school, we watch Hollywood films that attempt to recreate Roman scenes. In Pompeii and Herculaneum we walked the actual Roman streets and entered their houses and shops and tried to imagine how it looked before tragedy struck. But for me, the one thing that made me appreciate that these Romans were real people just like us, who worried about what to wear today, or what the weather would be like, or even whether the new Emperor would be crazy [😊] was this portrait of a Roman lady, discovered in the ruins of Pompeii and now in the Naples Archaeological Museum. I found it hard to take my eyes off her.
