Goodwin’s Court
Every bustling city seems to have its hidden gems, it’s why I like exploring them on foot.
Just adjacent to busy St Martin’s Lane and only accessible via a narrow low roofed archway, is this old alley that is like taking a trip back in time. The alley here created around 1627 was once called Fishers Alley, the current buildings being erected in 1690. The old bow windows once advertised what these once shops had to sell, but over time they became unprofitable so are now occupied by offices including theatre and entertainment agencies. Three large working gas lamps complete the scene.
One can imagine meeting Charles Dickens at any moment……
