Port of Marina Grande
Sorrento is one of the most popular holiday resorts in Italy, but the Port of Marina Grande has largely maintained its rustic charm, original identity, and sense of community.
The port's secluded atmosphere stems from its sheltered position, created by the promontory which separates the city of Sorrento from this hidden harbour. The Promontory was once the site of a Roman villa belonging to the Emperor Augustus' nephew.
On the lower left of the photo you can see some tables covered in what looks like red tablecloths but is in fact square netting like a fish net. This is a little fish restaurant ownwd by the fishermen’s cooperative, where we ate a very nice assortment of freshly caught seafood, washed down by a carafe of very decent chilled white wine. *Perfik 😊
*Non-Brits will need to google the Darling Buds of May to explain that one.
