New in town....

This is my wife and our son 22 years ago. this seems to be the earliest photo I have of Folkestone, shortly after we moved here from Aylesford. Actually, my wife was simply moving back - Folkestone is where she was born and where she grew up. But the reason I posted this photo is because of what's in the background. Ignore if you can, the brightly coloured jacket, and look beyond. For that is why day trippers once flocked to Folkestone. The Dome, the helter skelter, the wooden roller coaster, miniature golf, ghost train, the log flume ......all gone now, all history.

In pre-digital days you were much more careful before you pressed the shutter. Film cost money. So I have no photos of the famous funfair, a moment in history that I failed to capture. Well, I didn't know that one day.....

Since my first camera at the age of 9 or 10 I must have taken thousands and thousands of photos. Even before digital I took thousands. And the trouble was, they took up space, especially prints. So over the years I "thinned out" my photos and in the process lost many photos that I would consider interesting historically. So much has changed in the last 60 years......
