Jasper
Believed to have been established in 1801 by Jasper Hawes, who built a supply depot on the Athabasca River for fur traders and explorers. Fur trading declined after 1850 and there were few travellers in the area until the Grand Trunk Railway arrived in 1911. By 1914, 46 lots had been leased to private enterprises and the first grocery store was opened.
