S8562 - Gartloskan Hill

HISTORY

Pillar completed 14th November 1955 costing £47.17s.10d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station NS04/T35 within the Isle of Arran secondary block, and levelled to second class precision during 1956. This pillar station was last maintained by the Ordnance Survey in September 1978.

 

SITE VISIT

Approached from the west. Parking by the south side of the track just outside the forest gate at NR692138. Followed the mapped tracks to the trig then a short hop across some heathery moor. The pillar is in excellent condition. The spider centre is plugged with tar. The flush bracket faces west, compass measurement 261°. Vented through the right (south) sight hole. Open outlook to the surrounding hills with a much longer view to Islay.
