HISTORY

Pillar completed 6th August 1954 costing £46.10s.0d. Computed as secondary station NX29/6 within the Girvan secondary block, and levelled (height to top of pillar) to second class precision during 1955. This pillar station was last maintained by the Ordnance Survey in June 1985.

 

SITE VISIT

On the Southern Upland Way. The pillar is in reasonable condition with a light horizontal crack across the main trunk. The spider centre is open. Built without a flush bracket. Vented through the northwest facing sight hole, compass measurement 317°. The full 360° panorama includes the Isle of Man and Arran.
