10737 - Low Abbey

HISTORY

Pillar completed 8th April 1960 costing £24.15s.8d. Flush bracket 19737 was levelled for height to first class precision, tertiary standards in 1961. Computed as tertiary triangulation station NY71/T6 within the Appleby secondary block in 1962. This pillar station was last maintained by the Ordnance Survey in June 1983.

 

SITE VISIT

Approached from the east. Parked on the public road by the end of the RoW at NY658275. Followed the RoW for 150m then via field boundaries, through woods and around a final field. The pillar is in good condition with an extra attachment affixed. The spider retains an OS centre cap with raised large wide letters. The flush bracket faces ESE, compass measurement 118°. Three sight holes open, the right (NE) port is plugged. The pillar bolt is visible. The views include Cross Fell.
