HISTORY

Pillar completed 15th August 1958 costing £44.9s.6d. Computed as secondary triangulation station NY29/2 within the Lockerbie secondary block, and levelled to second class precision during 1959. This pillar station was last maintained by the Ordnance Survey in May 1977.

 

SITE VISIT

Overall approach from the west. Parking on the hard standing (across) on the west side of bridge from the road end at NY299969. Option of following the tracks through the forest at NY311979. then onto open hills at NY312972, or directly across open hills from via east gate 50m north of farm buildings. The pillar is in good condition but with a repaired horizontal crack near the top. The spider centre retains its original OS centre cap with raised large narrow letters. The flush bracket faces northwest, compass measurement 310°. Vented through the back (SE) sight hole, the front (NW) port is breaking open.
